
Five Miners Make Frontier League All-Star Game

Sauget, IL - The historic season for the Southern Illinois Miners continued today, with five players from the Miners team being named to the South All-Star team for next week's Frontier League All-Star game in Florence, KY.
Ralph Santana, Chris Hall, Mike Scanzano, Rob Wirth and Rob Wooley were voted to the South squad by managers and coaches from Western Division teams as well as media members from the division.
Ralph Santan goes to the Frontier League's mid-summer classic as the Frontier League leader in batting with a .385 average and leads the league in hits as well with 57.
Third baseman Chris Hall makes the team with impressive fielding credentials, having committed just three errors in 34 games. Hall, who has a .377 batting average, had a 21 hit streak from June 4 to June 24.
Mike Scanzano, who came to the Miners after the season began has played a solid shortstop and helped the Miners to the third best defense in the Frontier League. Scanzano has a .971 fielding percentage and is hitting .385 through 26 games.
Rob Wirth continues to impress behind the plate and at the plate. The Chicago suburb native has thrown out 25% of the runners who have tried to steal bases and is hitting .309. Wirth is tied for the team lead in RBI with Ralph Santana (22).
Rob Wooley, the Miners starting pitcher rounds out the quintet headed to Florence, KY. Wooley is 4-1 and own an ERA of 2.31. From June 9 to June 20, Wooley won three straight starts and opponents are hitting a slim .201 against him.
The All-Star game will be played Wednesday, July 11 at Champion Window Field.
The Southern Illinois Miners return to Rent One Park Wednesday, July 4 to host a three game series against the Chillicothe Paints. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 PM
