MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs couldn't complete a third period comeback, and fell to the Adirondack Thunder, 5-4, Saturday night at the SNHU Arena on DEA Night.
The Monarchs (8-6-1-1) dropped their second game of the season to the Thunder (9-5-1-1), despite outshooting their biggest rival, 34-27.
After a scoreless first period, the Thunder opened the scoring in a wild second period when Desmond Bergin broke the ice at :45 of the second period for his 3rd goal of the season. James Henry fed Bergin from behind the net to the high slot for a slap shot past the glove of Monarchs goaltender, Evan Cowley, to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.
The Monarchs tied the game when Zac Lynch scored at 6:19 of the middle frame. Circling the top of the blue line, Matt Leitner found Lynch just inside the right-wing circle for a quick shot past Thunder goaltender, Nick Riopel, for his 5th goal of the season.
Tommy Kelley gave the Monarchs the lead when he scored his 1st professional goal at 8:59 of the second period, to make the game, 2-1. In the left corner, Leitner fed the puck to Joel Lowry in the slot, and a crashing Kelley picked up the rebound and put in a wrister past Riopel.
The Thunder tied the game at 2-2 when Kevin Lough scored a power-play goal at 10:50 of the second period. Dylan Olsen slid the puck along the blue line to Lough who pinched down to the top of the right-wing circle where he fired a wrister past Cowley's blocker for his 2nd goal of the season.
The Thunder grabbed the lead back with their second power-play goal of the night from Olsen at 13:44 of the second period. Along the goal line to Cowley's right, Ty Loney passed to Olsen who was stationed on the top of the paint for a quick shot past Cowley's glove for his 3rd goal of the season.
The Thunder extended their lead when Loney scored his 11th goal of the season at :32 of the third period, to make it a 4-2 game. After receiving a pass in the neutral zone from Brian Ward, Loney carried the puck to the high slot and sent a wrister top shelf past Cowley's blocker.
The Monarchs bounced back with a goal from Matt Schmalz at 8:01 of the third period on his 2nd goal of the season. In the neutral zone, Eric Schurhamer passed to Schmalz who carried the puck to the goal line where he put the puck past Riopel's blocker to make it a 4-3 game.

The Thunder regained the lead with a goal from Ward at 13:08 of the third period, to put the Thunder up for good, 5-4. Bergin faked a shot in the low slot and passed the puck to Ward, where he sent a quick shot past an out of positioned Cowley for his 5th goal of the season.
