Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS - Wichita scored five goals in the second period and skated past Allen on Sunday afternoon by the final of 6-3 at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Lane Bauer and Steven Iacobellis potted two goals apiece and Greg Chase finished with three points.
Iacobellis got the Thunder on the board with less than five minutes to go in the first. He drove up the right wing and fired a pass across the crease that hit an Allen defenseman and went in the net.
In the second, Bauer made it 2-0 at 4:02 with assists to Chase and Chad Butcher. The Americans scored the next two and pulled even. David Makowski scored a power play goal at 4:17 to make it 2-1. At 6:18, Colby McAuley recorded his first of the year that tied it at two.
Wichita scored the next three to hop out to a 5-2 lead. Bauer netted his second of the contest at 7:56 that gave the Thunder the lead for good at 3-2. The Americans appeared to tie the game at three when a pass from Asuchak to Aubin was redirected in the net. The official ruled that he kicked the puck in and the goal was waived off.
The Thunder took advantage right after that and Mark MacMillan scored at 12:28 to make it 4-2. Chase made it 5-2 at 13:44 as Butcher centered a pass from behind the goal line and he roofed it over Stephon Williams. That would be it for Williams as he was pulled and Jeremy Brodeur came in
Peter MacArthur cut the lead to 5-3, tipping home a shot from the blueline on the power play for his fourth of the season. Iacobellis gave the Thunder a three-goal lead as his shot bounced through the crease and got past Brodeur for a 6-4 advantage.
Joel Chouinard cut the lead to 6-4 at 14:17 of the third period on the man advantage. Allen pulled Brodeur and had a two-man advantage with two minutes left. Wichita held the Allen offense at bay and skated away with a 6-4 victory.
Bauer finished the game with three points (2g, 1a) while Chase had a goal and two assists. MacMillan finished with a Gordie Howe hat trick (1g, 1a, one fight). Rumpel grabbed his fifth win of the year, stopping 24 of 28 shots. Williams suffered the loss, stopping 11 of 16 shots he faced.
Wichita went 1-for-3 on the power play. Allen was 3-for-5 on the man advantage.
The Thunder hits the road for the next two, starting on Wednesday night in Kansas City against the Mavericks.
