Three goal burst in second period lifts Indy to home victory
November 21, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel erased an early second period 2-1 deficit with a 3-goals blitz in 2:39 to overcome the Tulsa Oilers Saturday night at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum, 4-3. In the process, the Fuel claimed back-to-back victories for the first time this season and raised their season record to 14(4-7-3) for 11-points.
In a hotly-contested affair featuring 29-penalties totaling 97-minutes, the Fuel actually gained the lead when Alex Wideman connected for the only goal of the opening period, his 6th of the season and his second in as many nights at the 10:29 mark.
However, at the outset of the middle stanza, the Oilers responded with a pair of power play goals 2:16 apart to seize a brief 2-1 advantage. Undaunted, Indy bounced back with a pair of power play goals of their own when Zach Miskovic knotted matters a mere two minutes later with his 3rd goal of the season, eclipsing his entire output of last season. The Miskovic PPG fused a Fuel 3-goals' powder keg in 2:39 as Nick Bligh's team-high 7th, also with power play time, and Cam Reid's 4th, his second game winning goal in as many nights catapulted the Fuel into an insurmountable 4-2 lead at the second intermission.
The Oilers made matters rather uncomfortable for the home team when they struck late in period three on a Chris Joyeau point shot at the 16:49 mark to narrow the Indy lead to 4-3. However, despite a Reed Seckel penalty at 17:35, combined with the Oilers lifting goaltender Devin Williams for the 6th attacker, the Fuel managed to stave off the visitors' late overtures to cement their first 2-game win streak of the campaign.
Tulsa outshot the Fuel, 36-25 as first-year goaltender Etienne Marcoux brushed aside 33-shots to post his second victory in as many nights.
Bligh was named the game's #1 Star, authoring 3-points on 1-goal, 2-assists while Miskovic, the #2 Star, had 1-goal and 1-assist. Marcoux was hailed the #3 Star.
Both teams registered 2-power play goals as the Fuel improved their mark to 3(2-1-0) halfway through their extended 6-games' home stand. Dating back to last season, it was the Fuel's 4th consecutive triumph over the Oilers.
The Fuel continue the home stand next Friday and Saturday nights on Thanksgiving weekend when they host their archrivals, the Fort Wayne Komets Friday night, November 24th on "Black Friday Night" before the Kansas City Mavericks pay a visit Saturday night, November 25th on "Star Wars Night." Both games begin at 7:35 pm at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Single-Game tickets are now available for the entire 2017-18 Fuel season at Indiana Farmers Coliseum! Fans can also take advantage of a wide variety of Ticket Plans by calling 317-925-FUEL or visiting IndyFuelHockey.com.
