KOMETS DEFEAT OILERS IN FORT WAYNE
November 21, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
FORT WAYNE, IN - The Fort Wayne Komets defeated the Tulsa Oilers 6-1 Sunday evening in a game that featured a Gabriel Desjardins hat-trick and a 46-save performance from Michael Houser at Memorial Coliseum.
Fort Wayne started the scoring when Shawn Szydlowski wristed a shot from the right circle past Jake Hildebrand on the first power play of the game. Desjardins gave the Komets a 2-0 lead when he squeezed a wraparound opportunity inside the left post. Dylan Hubbs cut the Komets' lead in half less than a minute later when he buried a rebound past Houser.
Newly-acquired forward Louick Marcotte scored on his first shot as a Komet to open the scoring in the second period. Dennis Kravchenko quickly added to the lead when he buried a backdoor goal off a tape-to-tape feed from Szydlowski. Desjardins closed out the second period, and gave the Komets a 5-1 lead, when he scored his second goal of the game with 27 seconds left in the frame.
Desjardins completed his hat-trick when he ripped a shot from the slot past Oilers backup goaltender Devin Williams, who came into the game in relief of Hildebrand at the start of the third period.
The Oilers' 14-game road trip continues Wednesday at 8:05 pm CT at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota for a Mountain Division battle against the Rapid City Rush.
