Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Andrew Toles' 139th hit tied the franchise record for hits in a season, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (66-49, 28-19) were beaten 7-4 Thursday night by the Great Lakes Loons (55-61, 28-18). The second straight defeat at the hands of the Loons allows Great Lakes to jump Bowling Green for first place.
The Bowling Green offense struck first on Thursday night, plating a run in each of the first two innings. Luke Maile drove home Tommy Coyle with a two-out RBI double in the first inning, and Toles record-tying single scored Ryan Dunn in the second inning. At the end of three innings, the Hot Rods held a 2-0 advantage.
The Loons brought nine men to the plate in the top of the fourth inning against Hot Rods starter Jeff Ames, scoring five times. The big blow in the game's most important inning was a three-run home run from Devin Shines, the son of Loons manager Razor Shines.
The loss drops the Hot Rods into second place in the Eastern Division second half for the first time since July 10. A Dayton win also brings the Dragons to within two games of the Hot Rods for the final playoff spot in the second half.
The nine-game homestand at Bowling Green Ballpark wraps Friday night at 7:05 PM CDT as the Hot Rods take on the Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers). Bowling Green will give the pearl to LHP Jordan Harrison (2-2, 3.38) opposite Great Lakes' LHP Miguel Sulbaran (6-3, 3.05). Join Chris Kleinhans-Schulz and Hank Fuerst on the call on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com). The Forever Communications Pregame Show begins at 6:35 PM CDT.
Friday night is the final Faith and Family Night, presented by Ashley Furniture and Christian Family Radio, of the season, featuring a pregame concert from national Christian recording artist All Things New and a faith testimonial from a Hot Rods player.
