August 8, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release
Dan Vogelbach blasted a three-run home run and Starling Peralta took a no-hitter into the sixth to help the Kane County Cougars defeat the Burlington Bees 7-0 on Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
The Cougars (47-64, 17-28) came out firing on all cylinders against the Bees (44-67,18-28), collecting three runs in two different innings to pair with a solid pitching performance by Starling Peralta.
Peralta (2-0) cruised through his first five innings, striking out five on just 66 pitches. Pedro Toribio singled to start the sixth to end Peralta's no-hit bid. The right-hander got two quick outs after the single, but had to depart after walking Exicardo Cayones and Wade Hinkle. Justin Amlung came out of the bullpen and induced an inning-ending ground out by Julio Concepcion.
Kane County got to Pat Lowery (4-7) early on in Thursday night's contest thanks to some wild pitching by Lowery. He walked Rock Shoulders with one out in the second and Giuseppe Papaccio doubled home Shoulders for the night's first run.
Vogelbach added to the run total in the third, blasting his 17th home run of the year after Lowery had walked Reggie Golden and Gioskar Amaya to start the inning. Two innings later, Lowery surrendered a bunt single to Oliver Zapata and was forced to leave due to an injury. Nic DellaTorre hit Vogelbach, but then got Jeimer Candelario to pop out and Shoulders to fly out. However, with two outs, DellaTorre hit Pappacio and allowed a RBI single by Escobar and a two-run to Jose Dore.
Alex Blackford got the final out of the fifth and also pitched the next three innings. He finished the night, tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, while facing the minimum.
The Bees and Cougars will conclude the three game series on Friday night, as Daniel Hurtado toes the rubber for Burlington and Tyler Skulina takes the bump for Kane County. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
