Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - Starling Peralta carried a no-hitter into the top of the sixth before bowing out with 5.2 scoreless innings of one-hit ball as the Kane County Cougars dominated the Burlington Bees, 7-0, on Thursday night in front of 10,238 fans at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Peralta (2-0) has not allowed a run in his 13.2 innings as a member of the Cougars (47-64, 17-28). He worked around five walks against the Bees (44-67, 18-28) and did not surrender a base hit until Pedro Toribio started the sixth with a clean single to left.

There was plenty of run support to back Peralta as the Cougars grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second. Rock Shoulders walked with one out and scored on a two-base hit off the bat of Giuseppe Papaccio. In the third, the Cougars added to the advantage against Pat Lowery (4-7). Reggie Golden and Gioskar Amaya each drew a base on balls before Dan Vogelbach blasted a three-run homer over the outfield deck in right.

Lowery lasted four-plus innings while surrendering five runs on five hits. He left the game after trying to field a bunt single from Oliver Zapata. Zapata ended up scoring later in the bottom of the fifth on a Carlos Escobar bloop single to right. Jose Dore followed that with a two-run knock to put the Cougars up by seven. Justin Amlung and Nathan Dorris preserved the shutout for the Cougars on the bullpen, helping to combine on a two-hitter.

The Cougars and Bees play the finale of their three-game series on Friday night with a 6:30 first pitch at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Right-hander Tyler Skulina (0-1) will start for the Cougars against fellow righty Daniel Hurtado (1-1). For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
