Toledo Wins Series Despite Loss

TOLEDO, Ohio - A strong offensive performance by Dawel Lugo was not enough for the Toledo Mud Hens to complete the sweep over the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field as the Bisons won 9-5.

Lugo finished the game 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Mike Gerber notched his fifth home run of the season and ended 3-for-5 with one RBI.

The Bisons (27-24) opened up the game by plating two runs in the first inning on two hits. In the third inning, they added five more and had five hits in the inning.

Kyle Dowdy's night came to an end after two and two thirds innings allowing seven earned runs on seven hits. Dowdy took his second loss of the year and walked three and struck out one in his fifth appearance for the Mud Hens (38-21).

Toledo struck back in the bottom half of the third, scoring three runs on a bases clearing double be Dawel Lugo. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Pete Kozma and Mike Gerber scored on the drive to left and making the score 7-3.

In the fifth inning, Buffalo added another run on a solo home run by Rowdy Tellez.

Phillipe Aumont delivered two and one third innings in relief allowing one earned run on one hit. Aumont punched out four batters and no walks.

The Mud Hens answered in the bottom half as Christin Stewart hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field scoring Lugo.

The Bisons added another run in the sixth inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly to right-field. After the top of the sixth, Buffalo led 9-4.

Paul Voelker threw two innings suffering one earned run on three hits and also walked two batters.

Gerber excited Fifth Third Field with a solo home run with one out in the seventh inning to close the gap to 9-5. This marked his fifth long ball of the campaign and 14th RBI.

Zac Houston entered the game in relief and allowed no runs on no hits in one inning of work, while walking one and striking out one. Kevin Comer came in to close for the Hens in the ninth and allowed no runs on one hit.

What's Next:

The Toledo Mud Hens will begin a three game home series with the Norfolk Tides with the first pitch on Friday night scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
