Louisville Bats News Release

RUBBER MATCH: The Bats had their season-long 5-game winning streak snapped Wednesday with an 8-1 loss to the Pawtucket Red Sox, evening the series at one game. The Bats have a chance to win their second straight series Thursday morning at McCoy Stadium with left-hander Justin Nicolino looking for his third quality start in a row.

AGAINST PAWTUCKET: The Bats and PawSox meet for the first time this season at McCoy Stadium. Last season, Louisville and Pawtucket each won a game in Pawtucket, before the final game of the series was postponed due to rain. The game was made up at Louisville Slugger Field as part of a doubleheader, with Pawtucket as the "home team", batting second. Overall, LOU won the season series 4-2, despite being outscored, 35-32.

Last Series W in Pawtucket: The Bats are looking for their first series win at Pawtucket since 2012, when they swept the PawSox in four games from June 22-25 in the midst of a 9-game win streak, an unlikely run for a team that finished 51-93 that season.

END OF THE LINE: The Bats had their 5-game win streak snapped, also losing their first June game last night. Starting pitcher Robert Stephenson failed to make it out of the fourth inning, the first time since May 20 that a Louisville starting pitcher did not complete 5.0 or more innings, a streak that lasted 25 games.

BACK-TO-BACK SERIES WINS: With a win Thursday, Louisville would win its fourth series this season and its first on the road in 2018. After sweeping Gwinnett in 3 games at Louisville Slugger Field, if the Bats win today they will have back-to-back series victories for the first time in over a year, May 30 to June 4, 2017, when they swept the Gwinnett Braves at home from May 30 to June 1, and took two of three from Lehigh Valley from June 2 to June 4. A win today would also secure the Bats' first series win on the road since they took two of three from Buffalo last season from July 28-30.

200 RUNS: The Bats have scored 197 as a club this season, one of just 2 teams (Rochester, 193) with fewer than 200 runs scored this season. Last season, Louisville scored its 200th run of the season on June 2 in the team's 53rd game of the season. Run #200 was scored that day in the bottom of the third against Lehigh Valley by Rob Brantly on a Sebastian Elizalde RBI single.

BATS IN THE MORNING: Louisville will play in its sixth morning game this season, and third on the road. The Bats last played in the morning on April 24 at Indianapolis, getting shut out for the first time by a 4-0 score in the final game of a season-long 10 game road trip. The Bats are 2-3 in morning games this season and 0-2 on the road, both at Indianapolis. Today marks the sixth of seven scheduled morning games for the Bats, with their final one scheduled for July 17 at Rochester. Last season, LOU went 2-2 in games that started before noon.

CRUZ HOMERS AGAIN: Louisville catcher Tony Cruz homered for the second straight night, supplying the team's only run last night. Cruz is just the second Bat to homer in back-to-back games this season, joining Steve Selsky who did it April 13-14. Cruz is the first Bats catcher to do it since Chad Wallach , July 3 and 5 last season, although Cruz homered at designated hitter on Tuesday night.
