MOOSIC, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell to the Durham Bulls 5-4 on Thursday night at PNC Field.
Both teams' bats were quiet through three and a half innings until the RailRiders finally jumped on the board first. Mike Ford and Ronald Torreyes both singled and Billy McKinney bashed a three-run home run deep over the right-field wall. Later in the inning, Clint Frazier hit a sacrifice fly to score Mark Payton from third, extending the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead to 4-0.
Durham answered quickly in the top of the fifth as Michael Russell singled, stole second, then was knocked in by Kean Wong with an RBI double. Brandon Snyder walked and Justin Williams smacked a three-run home run to tie up the game.
The Bulls took the lead in the top of the seventh inning as Willy Adames smacked a lead-off triple. Snyder then hit a deep sacrifice fly to score Adames from third.
Hunter Wood picked up his second win of the season, throwing three scoreless innings on two hits. Ian Gibaut recorded the save for Durham, working a perfect ninth.
For Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Chance Adams threw better than his final line indicates, tossing four scoreless innings before the damage in fifth. The right-hander went five innings allowing four runs on six hits, striking out nine and walking four.
McKinney homered for the second night in a row and Brandon Drury extended his on-base streak to 29 games.
The RailRiders will play a final game with Durham on Friday night at PNC Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. After tomorrow, the RailRiders will continue their homestand with three games against Rochester, then three more with Louisville.
