LAST TIME OUT: The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell to the Durham Bulls 10-5 on Wednesday night at PNC Field. The Bulls got on the board in the top of the second, when Brandon Snyder launched a solo home run off Erik Swanson. A two-run single from Jason Coats in the top of the third extended the Durham lead to 3-0. Swanson lasted only 2.2 innings, the shortest outing of his season, allowing three runs on four hits, walking one and striking out five.

Durham tacked on three runs against Cale Coshow in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Willy Adames lined a three-run triple to right center to extend the Bulls lead to 6-0.

The RailRiders struck in the bottom of the fourth against Bulls reliever Ryan Weber. Clint Frazier led off the frame with a single, and three batters later Ronald Torreyes reached on a fielder's choice and an error. Then Billy McKinney blasted a three-run home run to dead center to narrow the deficit to 6-3. The long ball was McKinney's fourth of the season in only 14 games.

Trailing 9-3, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre struck back in the bottom of the sixth when Wilkin Castillo lined a two-out base hit to score Mike Ford and pare the Bulls advantage down to 9-4. Durham expanded its lead back to six runs in the top of the eighth with an RBI double from Ciuffo against Raynel Espinal. The offense would add one more run in the 9th inning in the 10-5 loss.

Tommy Kahnle struck out two batters in the top of the ninth in his second appearance with the RailRiders this season. As a staff, the five RailRiders pitchers recorded 13 combined strikeouts, and have registered 31 strikeouts in the first two games of the series.

In the bottom of the ninth against Jaimie Schultz, the RailRiders loaded the bases on singles from Mark Payton and Clint Frazier, and a walk to Brandon Drury. With Mike Ford at the plate, Schultz committed a balk to force home Payton and narrow the deficit to 10-5. He was able to settle down and strike out Ford to end the game.

Frazier went 3-for-5 with a run scored and a walk to pace the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre offense, while Drury drew three walks in a hitless night to extend his consecutive games on-base streak to 28.

HOME COOKING: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre opened a ten-game, nine-day homestand Tuesday with a 6-3 win in the first of a three-game set against Durham before dropping Wednesday's game, 10-5. The Bulls lead the all-time series 81-71 and were 4-3 against the RailRiders in 2017. Louisville is then in town Friday through Sunday and the longest homestand of the season concludes with four games over three days against Rochester, including a doubleheader on June 12 to make up for a rainout on May 12. The homestand begins with the RailRiders owning a 15-12 record at home on the year (now 16-13) and were 5.0 games back of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (now 6.0 games back).

KEEPING PACE: INF Brandon Drury doubled in the 7th inning Tuesday to extend his hit streak to 9-straight games which is the longest by a RailRider this season, but he went 0-for-2 at the plate Wednesday to see the streak end. His on-base streak is now 28 games however after three walks Wednesday against the Bulls; every contest he has played in Triple-A this season between his rehab stint and after he was optioned on May 14. Drury's streak is the second longest in RailRiders history dating back to 2013, having eclipsed Cole Figueroa's 26-game run in 2015, Rob Refsnyder's (2015) and Donovan Solano's (2017) 25-game streaks. OF Jake Cave holds the RailRiders mark at 31 in-a-row last season.

LONG TIME, NOT GONNA SEE: The RailRiders will not face the Indianapolis Indians again until August 13-15. After this series against Durham, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will not face the Bulls again until August 10-12 at DBAP.

KAHNLE LOOKS ABLE: In the top of the 9th inning, RHP Tommy Kahnle entered out of the bullpen for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. It was the third appearance with a Yankees minor league team this season which were a pair rehab appearances with both Charleston and SWB in late May. In fact for Kahnle, who was originally drafted by the Yankees before spending time with the Colorado Rockies and Chicago White Sox, it was his first appearance in a game as a Yankees minor leaguer since September 11, 2013 in Game 2 of the Eastern League Championship series. He tossed the final 0.2 innings to secure the save in a 5-4 win and put the Thunder up 2-0 en route to a three-game sweep over the Harrisburg Senators.
