Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Mud Hens (2-1) took their first loss of the season at the hands of the Indianapolis Indians on Wednesday evening at Fifth Third Field by a score of 4-2.
Mud Hens starter Matt Boyd pitched five innings for Toledo, recording five strikeouts with no runs earned. The lefty allowed four hits and walked two batters. In relief, RHP Warwick Saupold tossed two innings, allowing one earned run on one hit.
RHP Alex Wilson also pitched out of the bullpen for Toledo. In his rehab assignment issued from Detroit, Wilson allowed one run on three hits in 2/3 innings pitched, while fanning two and walking one. RHP Preston Guilmet appeared for Toledo out of the bullpen during the eighth and ninth innings.
Just like last night, SS Dixon Machado led off the Toledo threat in the first inning with the first Mud Hens triple of the season. Machado did not have a chance to steal home this game, as a double off the bat of LF Nate Schierholtz sent him home.
The Mud Hens trailed for the first time all season beginning in the third inning following a 2-run double from Jason Rogers of the Indians. Although Boyd allowed two walks in the inning, both runs were unearned to the Hens pitcher. Boyd also notched two strikeouts during the 30-pitch inning.
Toledo began a rally in the eighth inning when a Machado single sent 2B Corey Jones to home plate. However, the efforts fell shot as they were held without a score in the ninth.
Indians starting pitcher Jameson Taillon handled the Hens batters all evening, striking out six while allowing only one run over six innings pitched.
The Mud Hens travel to Louisville tomorrow for their first road trip of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
