Buffalo Bisons News Release

Scott Sizemore's walkoff single four hours and four minutes after the first pitch on Wednesday gave the Syracuse Chiefs a 3-2, 13-inning victory over the Bisons from NBT Bank Stadium.

Sizemore ended the marathon with two on and one out, driving a Ben Rowen offering over the head of Alexi Casilla in left field. The victory gave the Chiefs the 2-1 series win over the Bisons and dropped the Herd to a 3-4 record on its season-opening roadtrip.

The Bisons will now take the short drive up the I-90 to return to Coca-Cola Field for Thursday's Home Opener against Rochester (2:05 pm.).

The Bisons were held to just three hits over the first seven frames on Wednesday before pulling ahead of the Chiefs temporarily in the eighth inning. Down 1-0, Jio Myers and Humberto Quintero led off with singles and advanced into scoring position on Casilla's sacrifice. David Adams followed with a grounder that went off Syracuse reliever Mick Masset and ricocheted to first base. In attempting to recollect himself, Masset dropped the relay from first baseman Matt Skole, allowing Myers to score.

Dominic Brown followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield for the 2-1 Bisons' lead.

But just as the Herd took their only lead of the game, the Chiefs quickly pulled even. Third Baseman Jason Martinson hit a no-doubt home run to deep left field off Ryan Tepera with one out in the eighth to tie the game at two. Tepera stayed on to retire the side in the eighth and ninth and force extra innings, but was charged with his second blown save of the season.

Drew Hutchison started for the Bisons and was solid after he worked out some kinks in the first inning. The righty retired the first batter he faced but then issued three straight free passes before hitting Martinson to force in the game's first run. But that was the only damage he allowed over 4.1 hitless innings, retiring 12 of the next 13 batters.
