Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs outlasted the Buffalo Bisons Wednesday in a 3-2, 13-inning win. Second baseman Scott Sizemore lined a game-winning single in the bottom of the 13th to score Trea Turner and send the Chiefs to a second consecutive series-opening win. Right-hander Austin Voth tossed six sterling innings in the game, which marked his Triple-A debut.

In the 13th, Syracuse (4-1) struck against Bisons right-hander Ben Rowen. Caleb Ramsey started the inning with a double down the left-field line. Turner followed with a pop-up bunt single to catcher Humberto Quintero, close enough to being caught that Ramsey held at second. After Tony Campana bunted into a force out at third base, Sizemore drove a 1-2 pitch over the head of left fielder Alexi Casilla, sending the Chiefs to victory.

Back in the first, the Chiefs opened the scoring in Drew Hutchison's lone rough inning. The Bisons starter walked Campana, Sizemore, and Matt Skole consecutively to load the bases with one out. Hutchison then hit Jason Martinson to bring a run and give the Chiefs an early lead.

The game held at 1-0 thanks to an outstanding Triple-A debut for Voth. The 23-year-old right hander did not allow a run in six innings of work, surrendering just three hits. Voth did not walk a batter, struck out six and retired 13 straight Bisons hitters at one point. Not to be outdone, Hutchison set down ten straight Chiefs between the second and fifth innings.

Buffalo (3-3) came from behind to grab the lead in the eighth. Sam Runion allowed back-to-back singles by Jio Mier and Humberto Quintero to put two runners on base. After a sacrifice bunt, Nick Masset came on in relief of Runion. David Adams hit a one-hop line drive off Masset's glove for an infield single, bringing home Mier to tie the game. A batter later, Domonic Brown hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Quintero and give the Bisons a 2-1 lead.

The Chiefs quickly squared the game in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Martinson sent a screaming live drive over the left-center field wall off Ryan Tepera to tie the score at two. The home run was the second for both Martinson and the Chiefs on the season. From there, the game stayed tied until Sizemore's final blow.

Thursday, the Chiefs hit the road to begin a six-game trip to Pennsylvania. The Chiefs first play the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at 6:35 Thursday, with right-hander Paolo Espino set to make his season debut against RailRiders right-hander Tyler Cloyd.
