The Bulls got both of their runs in the bottom of the eighth as Dayron Varona and Nick Frankin both produced RBI singles. Both runs were unearned for right-hander Madison Younginer as an error by Gwinnett first baseman Matt Tuiasosopo extended the inning. The teams went to the ninth inning with Gwinnett holding a 5-2 lead.
In the top of the ninth, Bonifacio singled to right, stole second base and scored from second as an errant pickoff attempt from Bulls' reliever Eddie Gamboa went into center field.
The Bulls loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but right-hander David Peterson struck out Mikie Mahtook and got Varona to ground into a force play to end the game.
