Louisville Bats News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Louisville Bats finished their four-game, seven-day road trip to Toledo and Columbus by sweeping the doubleheader against the Clippers, 5-4 and 6-1. The win moves Louisville back to .500 at 2-2 and Columbus fell to 2-3 with the pair of losses.
In game one left-hander Cody Reed (0-0, 3.86) made his Triple-A debut but did not factor in the decision. He pitched four and two-third innings, allowing four hits, two runs, walking two and striking out six. Reliever, Ryan Mattheus, earned his first win of the season pitching two-thirds of an inning. Closing it out was Drew Hayes, who picked up his first save, this one taking five outs to do so.
Jose Peraza collected the Bats' first three-hit game of the year, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Louisville jumped out to a 4-1 lead going to the bottom of the fifth of a seven-inning game but Columbus battled back to make it 4-2. Kyle Waldrop hit Louisville's first home run of the year, a solo shot, which was the difference as the Clippers scored two runs in the sixth, the Bats winning 5-4.
Columbus left-hander Ryan Merritt (0-1, 7.71) took the loss in game one, allowing four runs on nine hits in four and two-third innings.
In game two right-hander Josh Smith (1-0, 0.00) pitched brilliantly allowing one unearned run in five innings, striking out five. Again, the Bats jumped out to a 4-1 lead, this time after three. They would add one run in the fifth and sixth to get to the final score, 6-1.
Steve Selsky had his first three-hit game, driving in a run. Jermaine Curtis had the big hit in the contest, a two-run double making the score 4-0 in the top of the third in favor of the Bats.
Steve Delabar and JC Ramirez each pitched an inning of relief to secure the win for the Bats.
In game two, Major League rehab starter right-hander Tommy Hunter took the loss for the Clippers pitching one inning, allowing one run on three hits.
Louisville will return home for Opening Night on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. as they take on the Toledo Mud Hens. Right-hander Robert Stephenson (NR) will get the start for the Bats while righty Thad Weber gets the ball for Toledo.
