Toledo Makes Two Deals

Toledo Walleye News Release

(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm of the ECHL announced today that they have traded defenseman Grady Moore to the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL for defenseman Tom Nemeth. In a separate deal, Toledo traded defenseman Brandon Fleenor and forward Wes Mason to the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL for forward Jim Abbott.

Nick Vitucci, Head Coach and Director of Player Personal, said of the moves " These are steps we needed to take to compete in our division right now. It is unfortunate that we had to trade some very good people, but to get something you have to give up something."

Vice President and General Manager Mike Miller added " I am thrilled with Nick Vitucci's work ethic. Nick has had one thing in mind since taking over the hockey department and that is returning the Storm to the ECHL's elite."

Nemeth comes to Toledo with ten years playing experience in the ECHL. In the 1993-94 season with Dayton Nemeth set an ECHL defenseman record with 82 assists and 98 points, both of which are still records today. Tom was voted as ECHL Defenseman of the Year for his work in 1993-94 season, and he won the same award back-to-back years in 1999-00 and in 2000-01 when he tallied 166 points combined. Tom started this year with the Columbus Stars, who folded on January 8th, of the United Hockey League where he collected 3 goals and 12 assists in 34 contests.

Abbott, a Pittsburgh Penguins pick in 2000, has netted 19 goals and 13 assists in 34 contests this season with the Ice Pilots. Jim picked up 94 points during his four-year career at the University of New Hampshire.

Toledo returns home this Friday night as they host Dayton. Toledo plays sixteen of their next 21 games in the Toledo Sports Arena.
