Texas Wildcatters News Release
Fresno, CA (January 13, 2004) - The Texas Wildcatters concluded their six-game West Coast road trip with a 4-3 overtime win against the Fresno Falcons. The Wildcatters improved to 3-2-1 on the trip and are unbeaten in regulation in their last four road games. Lukas Smital scored the only goal in the first period on a 5-on-3 Texas power-play for his 13th goal of the year. John Campbell and Brad Fraser assisted on Smital's goal, which extended his point streak to10 games on the road and six-straight Texas-games. Davis Parley stopped all 13 shots he faced in the opening period.
The Falcons tied the game in the second on the power-play as Boris Protsenko banged home a pass from Mike Sandbeck. Texas regained the lead as Tony Lawrence threw the puck towards the net, it deflected off a Falcons player and past Fresno goaltender Terry Friessen for Lawrence's ninth goal of the season. Fresno would respond with two goals in 16 seconds to take their only lead of the game 3-2. With seven seconds remaining in the second period, Smital turned on the jets and blew by a Falcons defender, scoring his second goal of the game, on a break away, tying the game at three after two periods of play.
The two teams would combine for 14 shots in a scoreless third period, forcing the game into overtime.
Aaron MacInnis ended the game 33 seconds into the extra session with a blistering slap-shot from the top of the face-off circle, to give the Wildcatters their second overtime win of the year.
