Reading Royals News Release

READING, PA – The Reading Royals have announced that they have traded the rights to defenseman Jason Maleyko to the Cincinnati Cyclones for the rights to defenseman Regan Rome. Goaltender Dave Marlin was released from his contract.

Rome, 23, has appeared in 32 games with the Cyclones this season. He has posted a goal and seven points, along with 55-minutes in penalties. The Nesbitt, Manitoba native appeared in 70 games last season with Pensacola and Jackson of the ECHL. Rome racked up 6 goals and 20 points along with 105 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, Rome spent time in the Western Hockey League and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Rome is expected to arrive in Reading Friday morning prior to the Royals home game against Charlotte.

Coach Derek Clancey says he knows what he is getting with Rome, "I am very familiar with what Reagan can do for us since he played for me last season in Jackson. He is a big guy that brings size, speed and toughness to our blue line."

"Our power play has been struggling lately," Clancey said. "I think with Jon Zion returning from Manchester and now adding Reagan Rome to the line up, I feel we have addressed that issue."

Marlin appeared in one game in net for the Royals versus the Japanese National team in an exhibition contest on December 30. The Downingtown, Pennsylvania native stopped 25 shots to record his second win in a Royals uniform, 3-2.

The Reading Royals take the ice at home on Friday, January 16 against the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05 p.m. The game will be telecast on WFMZ, Channel 69. Joe O'Donnell will be handling the play-by-play duties on the Royals flagship station, 1240AM, ESPN Radio. WWE professional wrestler Shawn Michaels will be signing autographs before the game from 5-7 p.m. and All Star Distributing is handing out Royals hats to the first 2,000 fans through the gate.
