Toledo Walleye News Release
- The Toledo Storm finished the week at 2-1-1. The Storm has compiled an overall record of 14-17-4. Toledo is eighth in the Northern Division.
- Toledo collected 5 out of a possible 8 points on the 4-game Southern Swing. Friday night, Toledo took down the top team in the Southern Division 3-2. Toledo lost a shootout 2-3 in Roanoke and was blanked 0-2 at Florence Sunday despite out-shooting the pride 42-19. Tuesday night Toledo exploded for 7 goals in Greenville, beating the Grrrowl 7-1.
- Friday night's contest in Columbia marked the first time this season that Toledo had ventured outside of the Northern Division. Toledo was the last team in the ECHL to play outside of its division.
- Alexandre Jacques netted the Storm's second hat trick this season Tuesday night in Greenville. Jacques also tallied the first trick this season on November 21st against Dayton. Alexandre collected five goals and 3 assists over the last four games. Jacques leads the Storm in goals with 15, and currently has 26 points in the 23 games he has played with Toledo.
- Prior to Tuesday night's 7-1 win in Greenville, head coach Nick Vitucci had his #36 retired by the Grrrowl. Nick spent 5 seasons in Greenville before returning to the Storm this season.
- Alexandre Jacques scored a first period power play goal on Tuesday night. That ended an eight game draught for the Storm without a power play goal.
- Rick Judson scored his seventh goal of the season Tuesday night in Greenville. Rick currently has 177 goals with Toledo, and is 13 goals shy of tying all-time leader Andrew Williamson.
- Peter Flache, acquired from Greenville on January 3rd, has appeared in four games with Toledo. Peter has collected 3 assists with Toledo and added 14 penalty minutes.
- On the strength of his 3 assists over the last week, All-Star Morten Ask currently leads Toledo with 18 assists. Ask (10-18) is currently tied for the team lead in points (28) with Nick Parillo (11-17).
- Sunday afternoon's shutout loss at Florence was the third time this year that Toledo has been held scoreless. That loss was also the fifth Sunday loss for the Storm. Toledo is 0-5-1 in Sunday games this season.
- Doug Teskey started all four contests for Toledo over the last week and a half. Doug has started 18 straight contests for the Storm, which is a career high. Doug is 6-9-3 over the stretch.
- Toledo out shot the opponent in two of the four games this week. Toledo is 7-5-3 in games when the Storm has more shots than the oppression. Ironically, Toledo's two wins came in the two games in which the Storm was out shot.
- Toledo is 8-2-4 in one goal games this season.
- Toledo's power play is 18 for 166 (10.8%) on the season, and is ranked 28th in the ECHL.
- The Storm's penalty kill went 16 for 18 over the last week. Toledo's penalty kill is now ranked 15th in the ECHL, killing off 151 of the 180 times shorthanded (83.9%).
- Toledo is 8-10-3 on the road this year.
- Toledo is 6-7-1 at home this season.
- Toledo is home for three games this weekend. Friday and Saturday night the Storm will play host to the Dayton Bombers. The Cincinnati Cyclones will invade the Sports Arena Sunday for an afternoon game.
STORM PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION:
Alexandre Jacques (5 goals - 3 assists = 8 points) Alexandre averaged 2 points a game over the last four contests as Toledo went 2-1-1 down south. Jacques big night came Tuesday when he netted a hat trick and added 2 assists during the Storm's 7-1 win at Greenville. Alexandre also assisted on Paul Ballantyne's game winning goal at Columbia last Friday night.
STORM GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION:
Doug Teskey (2-1-1, 1.73 gaa, 0.947 save%) Doug ran his consecutive starts streak to 18 after this past week. Doug was solid once again in every game for the Storm. Teskey made 125 saves over the course of 4 games (41,28,17,39). Teskey's best work of the week came in the third period of Friday's 3-2 win at Columbia. Doug stopped all 13 Inferno shots as Toledo held onto a one-goal lead.
