Toledo Mud Hens News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Toledo Mud Hens lose their fourth game to the Syracuse Mets this season after Saturday's 8-6 final at NBT Bank Stadium.
With one game remaining in this series before heading back to Toledo, the Mud Hens have now fallen short eight times dating back to July 16, but remain in third place in the IL West Division standings.
Edwin Jackson (0-1, 6.75 ERA) made his return back to the Detroit Tigers organization on Saturday after signing a minor-league deal earlier this week. His first start with Toledo ended with him throwing 2.2 innings, allowing six runs and three earned runs on five hits.
Mets starter Walter Lockett (2-2, 3.89 ERA) was optioned by New York on Friday before lasting five innings and striking out seven for the win.
Three straight two-out singles in the second inning provided Toledo with the first run of the game.
Kade Scivicque, starting in his 14th Triple-A game at catcher, would hit a ground ball into the hole at shortstop to score Ronny Rodriguez.
The Mud Hens gave Jake Rogers the night off after the No. 12-ranked Detroit Tigers prospect recorded a triple in Friday's loss.
Barely beating the tag at home was Gregor Blanco as Syracuse tied it on Arismendy Alcantara's RBI single to right field.
Two more runs came in the bottom half of the second when Luis Guillorme in the next at-bat doubled for the 12th time this season.
The Mets took a 6-1 lead with a bases clearing double by Braxton Lee, resulting in the replacement of Jackson for Caleb Thielbar, with two outs in the following inning.
Drafted in the 18th-round by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009, Thielbar entered Friday's game having not allowed a run in six of his last seven relief appearances.
The 32-year-old left unscathed in the fourth with the bases loaded but managed to ground out into a double play.
Toledo found some offense in the fifth when Dawel Lugo's ground ball single to left field was misplayed for Daz Cameron and Victor Reyes to score.
Lugo leads the team in batting average (.332) and has hit safely in three of his last four games.
The fourth home run of the series for Syracuse came off Austin Adams in the sixth inning for the 7-3 lead.
Adams threw his second outing since being reinstated from the temporarily inactive list on Tuesday. He's surrendered runs in three of his five total appearances with the Mud Hens this season.
It became a two-score difference once Scivicque registered his first home run with the Mud Hens this season in the eighth.
Closing it out for Syracuse was Ruben Tejada with an RBI single to right field off Daniel Stumpf, who was recently optioned by Detroit on Thursday, where he compiled a 4.44 ERA and 1.75 WHIP through 26.1 innings in 2019
Willi Castro rallied in his final at-bat in the ninth by hitting his first home run since July 7.
What's Next:
Tim Adleman (3-4, 3.88 ERA) is probable to start Sunday in the final of a three-game series against the Mets.
Opening pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. (EST).
