Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ (January 23, 2004) – The Titans returned home to Sovereign Bank Arena looking to end their three-game skid against the top team in the ECHL, the Wheeling Nailers. Trentondid just that with their most complete effort on the ice this season and a 3-1 win.

Chris Pittman gave the Titans the lead on the power play late in the first period, when he tipped home Scott Bertoli's wrist shot from the blue line for his second goal as a Titan and a 1-0 advantage. The Nailers would tie it up the same way at 2:45 of the second period as J.F Dufour deflected T.J. Reynolds point shot to make the score 1-1

Bertoli would strike again on the power play, as the native of Milton, ON skated untouched into the high slot and blasted a slapshot past Nick Boucher to put the Titans back up by one. Jay Leach would add his first goal as a Titan on an empty-netter insurance marker that made the final score 3-1 Titans.

Titans goalie Andrew Allen turned away 26 shots for his tenth victory of the season, as the Titans were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Boucher suffered just his fifth loss of the year, but his second to Trenton this season.

The Titans continue their homestand on Sauturday, January 24 at 7:00pm against the Roanoke Express. WWE's Jerry "The King" Lawler will be on hand to participate in in-game entertainment and sign autographs in the concourse during the first intermission.
