Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
COLUMBUS, GA - The Florence Pride lost to the Columbus Cottonmouths 3-1 Friday night in front of 2,332 fans at the Columbus Civic Center. The loss extended the Pride's losing streak to three games.
It took Columbus just 56 seconds to score the first goal of the night. Dan Tessier centered a pass to Rumun Ndur in the high slot. Pride goaltender Matt Underhill got his skates caught, and Ndur's shot just beat the netminder to his left, giving Ndur his third goal of the season, and his second against the Pride.
The Pride appeared to tie the game with 1:38 left in the first period. Craig Brunel skated down the left wing side, and had his initial shot stopped by Jason Tapp. But, Brunel kept pushing at the puck, and referee Jamie Koharski pointed to the net. The red light never came on, and after a conversation with the goal judge, Koharksi waved off the goal.
At the 6:24 mark of the second period, Craig Brunel fought former NHL heavyweight Rumun Ndur. Brunel beat Ndur, landing several quality punches.
The bout sparked the Pride, as they tied the game just over than three minutes later, at 9:25. Wes Goldie crashed the net, and tipped a shot past Tapp for his 25th goal of the season, and extending his point streak to seven games.
Underhill kept the game tied with several unbelievable saves, including two without his stick.
But, the Cottonmouths took the lead back with 30.9 seconds left in the middle period. After another Underhill save, both Luke Earl and Shaun Sutter looked to clear. The Cottonmouths kept the puck alive, and a quick wrister by Ryan Risadore beat Underhill over the right shoulder to make it 2-1 through two periods.
Columbus got an insurance goal at the 12:42 mark of the third period. With Kyle Kidney in the box, Risidore fed a perfect back door pass to Marc-Andre Thinel on the far past, who tipped it past Underhill for his 10th of the season.
The Pride have a quick turn-around, as they travel to Columbia for a 2:00 matinee Saturday afternoon. All of the action on WDAR Sunny 105.5 starts with the Palmetto Chiropractic Pre-Game Show at 1:40.
Florence returns home next Saturday, January 31, hosting the Greenville Grrrowl at 7:30 on Church Night. Following the game, local recording artists N'Accord will perform a post-game concert. Group rate tickets are available for the game, starting at the low price of just $7 each. For more information, or to place your order, call the Pride office at (843) 669-7825.
