Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ - In their third three-game weekend in four weeks, the Trenton Titans (19-13-3) could only pick up a victory against the Wheeling Nailers on Saturday, while falling twice to the Reading Royals. Despite gathering just two of a possible six points, Trenton remains in second place in the North Division - tied with Reading - and four points behind the Cincinnati Cyclones. The Titans prepare for another busy week as they take the ice for four games in five days beginning with home games against Johnstown and Augusta on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. Trenton then travels to Wheeling before coming home to host the Royals for another Sunday matinee.
ROYAL SHUTOUT: The Titans could not find their offense as they were blanked for the second time this year in a 3-0 loss to the Reading Royals. John Snowden provided the only goal the Royals would need as he lit the lamp during a 5-on-3 power play late in the first period. Trenton would have its opportunities, but their highly ranked man-advantage unit betrayed them on this particular night, going 0-for-8. Joel Martin was solid in net, but took the loss in turning away 25-of-27 shots.
TITANS CLAW NAILERS: Trenton was able to jump out to an early lead as Cousins Pandolfo, Mike and Mark, both potted goals on the power play to make it 2-0 in their team's favor. The Nailers would answer back on 5-on-4 situations in the first and second periods to tie the score heading into the third. There, John Laliberte snuck a backhander over the shoulder of Andy Franck, while Mark Pandolfo's second of the contest gave the Titans the insurance they needed to triumph, 4-2.
KING COMEBACK: Trenton took the lead on three separate occasions against Reading to lead 3-2 after one period, but four unanswered goals by the Royals resulted in a 6-3 loss for the Titans that soured the end of the weekend. The difference proved to be a span of 4:18 at the start of the second period in which a flurry by the Royals produced three goals. Trenton scored on their first two power play attempts, but ended the contest just 2-for-8. Meanwhile, Reading converted on three consecutive man-advantages to pull away.
LIL' PANDO GETS INTO THE ACT: Mark Pandolfo, cousin of Mike Pandolfo, picked up the first multi-goal game of his professional career when he notched two in a 4-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers on Saturday. Pandolfo also has five multi-point games this season, in which the Titans are 3-1-1.
ALL-STAR RECAP: Trenton's own John Laliberte potted the insurance goal that helped give the American Conference a 6-3 victory over the National Conference in the 2007 Rbk Hockey/ECHL All-Star Game. Laliberte's one-timer beat Ryan MacDonald with 3:18 left in regulation and helped fend off a furious comeback from the National Conference.
