Chiefs rivet Titans 5-4 in shootout

Trenton, N.J. (January 24, 2007) - The Johnstown Chiefs rebounded from a three-goal deficit to defeat the Trenton Titans 5-4 in a shootout at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey, on Wednesday night.

Trenton got on the board first, when Jim Henkel tipped a shot past Chiefs goaltender Ryan Munce at 11:04 of the first period. The Titans would add a power-play marker from Gregg Johnson at 3:58 of the second period, and then Mike Manley picked up a loose puck behind the Johnstown net and used a wraparound move to beat Munce to the far side.

Andrew Martens got Johnstown on the board at 16:40 of the second, picking up the rebound of Ben Wallace's shot from the point and firing it past Trenton goaltender Joel Martin at 16:40 of the second. Forty-three seconds later, Troy Riddle gave Trenton a 4-1 lead as he fired a wrist shot past Munce. Dmitri Tarabrin scored his fifth of the season to cut the Titans lead to two at 19:18, firing a one-timer past Martin.

Doug Andress drew the Chiefs to within one, scoring with a slapshot from the point after Jean Desrochers won the draw cleanly back to him at 4:04 of the third period. Dmitri Tarabrin scored his second of the game to even the score at four-apiece, breaking in two-on-one with John Adams and burying a wrist shot behind Martin.

P.J. Atherton gave the Chiefs the win in the shootout, beating Martin with a backhander on the Chiefs' ninth shootout attempt. Johnstown was 0-for-5 on the power play. Morgan Cey stopped seven shots in the third period and overtime and 7-of-9 shooters in the shooters in relief of Ryan Munce, earning his tenth win of the season.
