Anybody Back There?

The Steelheads have been floundering without a back stop in recent games. Idaho's starting goaltender Steve Silverthorn impressed AHL affiliate Iowa Stars coaching staff with back-to-back shutouts after a call up earlier this month and earned another recall on January 9th. Backup goalie John Daigneau had been injured during a game in Phoenix, and after starting for Idaho on January 19th, was placed on the injured reserve list. Two emergency goaltenders were signed for last weekend's games at Qwest Arena, including former netminder Blair Allison. Allison came in to relieve Daigneau on the 19th and played the remaining two periods, then started the game the following night. It was Allison's first professional game since signing on as emergency backup on January 1st, 2005. However, the Stars have aligned, 'er assigned Silverthorn back to Idaho and he will be in net for the Steelheads tonight. Emergency backup goalies will be signed in both Utah and Las Vegas.
