January 24, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, an affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League, are pleased to unveil their latest community project, the "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer", and will host the program in conjunction with the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

The RoadRunners first annual "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will commence at 2:00 p.m. Sunday with a special Meet and Greet Party at Phoenix Children's Hospital's Melvin L. Cohen Conference Center located inside Building E.

"Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" is a program that will pair RoadRunners' players with 18 children from across Arizona who suffer from pediatric cancer. For the next three months, the players and children will participate in a series of four social events with the hopes of creating a lasting relationship and increased awareness about childhood cancer in the community.

"On behalf of the entire organization, we are thrilled to introduce such a wonderful program to our players and our fans," said RoadRunners Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Ray Delia. "Many people in this world fight a difficult battle against cancer every single day, and this is our opportunity to help with that fight in any possible way that we can."

Other events in the first annual "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will include a special locker room tour and visit following the RoadRunners game on Sunday, Feb. 18 against the Long Beach Ice Dogs, and a skate with the team party on Saturday, March 10 at the Alltel Ice Den in North Scottsdale.

The "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will culminate at 7:11 p.m. Saturday, March 17 when the RoadRunners take the ice against the Las Vegas Wranglers wearing special commemorative jerseys dedicated to those Phoenix Children's patients participating in the program. These jerseys will be auctioned off immediately after the game with the proceeds benefiting the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children's Hospital and Caps For Kids, a national non-profit organization which provides hats autographed by athletes and celebrities to children who lose their hair due to the effects of chemotherapy.

"Today, more than 70 percent of children diagnosed with cancer will be cured," said Jeremy Kraut-Ordover, Development Officer at Phoenix Children's Hospital Foundation. "Phoenix Children Hospital is the Southwest's largest provider of childhood cancer services and a national leader in pediatric oncology research. Support from community partners, such as the Phoenix RoadRunners, is crucial to Phoenix Children's. Our ability to provide cutting-edge treatment and world-class services to our patients and their families is strengthened by this partnership."

Originated by the Mississippi Sea Wolves Hockey Club of the ECHL in 2003 and later duplicated by the Atlantic City (N.J.) Boardwalk Bullies Hockey Club of the ECHL in 2004 and 2005, "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" has touched hundreds of lives and raised thousands of dollars in the fight against cancer.

The RoadRunners organization would also like to recognize and thank Dad's Catering, Cold Stone Creamery, the Alltel Ice Den, XP Events, and Peter Piper Pizza for their support of the inaugural "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer".
