Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Long Beach, CA - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Manitoba Moose and the Vancouver Canucks, began their second road trip of the month in Long Beach to try and leash the Ice Dogs and widen the gap from the bottom of the National Conference. The Salmon Kings leading scorer Wes Goldie and rookie goaltender Bryan Bridges led Victoria to a solid 3-1 victory.

Victoria rookie Goaltender Bryan Bridges made 20 saves in the first period alone to help give the Salmon Kings a 2-0 advantage.

For the third time in Long Beach, Victoria veteran Wes Goldie scored first for the Salmon Kings in the opening stanza. Ryan Wade spotted Goldie behind the Ice Dogs defensemen and sent him on a breakaway and Goldie wristed the puck past Netminder Mike Brown for his 23rd goal of the season.

Shortly after the Ice Dogs held off a Salmon Kings powerplay, Victoria captain Kiel McLeod won a faceoff on the left circle in Long Beach territory, and with support from Mike Stutzel was able to loop into the crease and tuck it in under the left pad of Brown with 59 seconds left in the first.

The score stayed at 2-0 after the second stanza, as Bridges posted an additional 14 saves.

Long Beach cleared the goose egg at 12:07 into the final frame during a powerplay. A tough angle shot from the left of the crease resulted in a rebound which was tapped in by Brandon Schwartz to close the gap 2-1.

Brown deflated some Victoria pressure with big saves in the third to keep Long Beach close, but Wes Goldie settled the score with an empty netter with 32 seconds remaining in the game.
