Big BC native becomes Salmon Kings forward

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have acquired 25-year-old Forward Robin Gomez. In addition, Victoria natives Ryan Wade and Mike Stutzel have been activated from the injured reserve (IR) list.

Gomez, a 6-foot-2, 210-lb native of Prince Rupert, BC has logged 237 games in the ECHL and 15 games in the American Hockey League (AHL). He joins the Salmon Kings from the Manchester Phoenix of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) in Europe, where he tallied 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) and 153 penalty minutes in 33 games.

Last season, Gomez posted 26 points in 54 games with the South Carolina Stingrays, and played three games in the AHL with the Hershey Bears. In four seasons with the Stingrays from 2002-2006, the left winger earned a total of 101 points in the regular season.

Before he turned pro, Gomez played four seasons in the Western Hockey League from 1999-2002-three with the Calgary Hitmen (alongside current Salmon Kings forward Jordan Krestanovich) and one season with the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Gomez has met the team in California and is expected in the lineup tonight in Long Beach versus the Ice Dogs at 7:00 p.m. (PT). In other roster moves, added to the injured reserve (IR) list are Forwards Greg Hornby (3-day IR) and Rich Meloche (7-day IR).
