Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ - A loss to the Wheeling Nailers on Friday and an otherwise idle weekend saw the Trenton Titans hold on third place in the North Division vanish. After being leapfrogged by the Toledo Storm, the Titans now sit tied for fourth place with the Johnstown Chiefs.

The Titans' road woes continued on Wednesday night against the Johnstown Chiefs. After a scoreless first period, the Chiefs exploded four goals in the second to help defeat the Titans 5-0 at Cambria County War Memorial. Johnstown notched the scoring trifecta in the period as JB Bittner and John Toffey notched goals at even strength, while Brad Thompson tallied a power play goal and Doug Andress scored shorthanded. Up in the AHL since November 1, Scott Stirling suffered his first regulation loss with Trenton this season.

The Toledo Storm came into town on Friday night and was able to extend the Titans' losing streak to three games with a 5-1 victory. After playing a solid first period, Trenton let the game slip away in the second as the Storm put up three goals, including two on the power play, while holding the Titans scoreless. Chris Pittman ended the Titans' scoreless streak at 171:40 with a power play tally mid-way through the third to make the score 3-1, but Trenton would come no closer.

Looking to get back in the win column for the first time since January 21, the Titans put forth their best effort of the season and took the latter game of the weekend against the Storm, 4-1. Peter Zingoni put his team up 1-0 at 2:31 of the first before Chris Blight tied it up going into the first intermission with a shorthanded goal. On this night, however, Trenton thrived in the middle period as Jason Norrie and Mike Jarmuth both picked up their first goals in a Titans uniform to build their team a 3-1 lead. Scott Selig also added his first of the season in the third period to complete the scoring.

The Titans swing down south for a three-game weekend. Trenton faces the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, February 10 before visiting the Gwinnett Gladiatiors on Saturday, February 11 and the Augusta Lynx on Sunday, February 12.
