TinCaps Seventh Inning Dooms Captains

Fort Wayne, IN - Fort Wayne (13-24) scored four runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Captains (18-20) by a final of 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon. With two outs in the inning and a runner on second base, the TinCaps had five straight hits including three straight doubles. A single by Diego Goris gave the TinCaps the lead and was the difference in the game. The TinCaps and Captains will play two more games of the four game split set, now the venue will change to Classic Park.

Lake County got on the board in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs, and a runner on second base, Richard Stock singled to center field and the Captains were up 1-0. Two batters later, Zack MacPhee singled home Stock and the score was 2-0 Lake County. The single by Stock extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

Jorge Martinez led off the seventh inning with his third homerun of the season. The solo homerun put Lake County ahead in the game by a score of 3-0. Martinez hit two home runs on the road trip one of which was a grand slam.

RHP Ryan Merritt (6-9) started the game for Lake County and did not get a decision. Merritt pitched three innings and did not allow a run . Merritt allowed four hits and one walk, while striking out six. Luis Morel (2-3) took the loss. Morel pitched five innings in relief and allowed seven hits and four earned runs. Morel struck out two and walked just one.

Fort Wayne sent RHP Zach Eflin (5-5) to the mound to start the game, and he did not factor into the decision. Eflin pitched six innings allowing two runs and seven hits Eflin walked two and struck out two. Ruben Mejia (3-5) got the win after pitching one and two thirds innings and allowing one earned run on three hits, with two walks and one strikeout. The save went to Trevor Gott his third of the season.

The Captains will be back in action on Thursday Night in Eastlake, OH to take on the Fort Wayne TinCaps in the third game of four game set. The Captains will start RHP Dylan Baker (6-6, 4.08) and Fort Wayne will counter with LHP Max Fried (4-5, 3.95). First Pitch is at 7:00 PM from Classic Park.

The homestand begins with Thirsty Thursday, presented by ESPN 850 WKNR, featuring a 25-cent beer Happy Hour for one hour before game time and half-price draft beer and fountain soda until 9 PM. A wing and pizza buffet will also be available outside the Corona Castaways Bar, featuring Happy Moose Bar and Grill wing sauces and pizza from Cleveland Pizza Company.

Thursday is also a Salute to Technology Night with the first 1,500 fans in attendance receiving a Captains Mouse Pad, courtesy of Koppel Advertising. The Captains will also be showcasing old technology and giving away 18 Cathode Ray 27-inch color televisions that are "game used" as they provided entertainment in the Classic Park luxury suites since the ballpark's opening in 2003 until being removed prior to this season.
