MONDAY NIGHT: The TinCaps topped the Whitecaps, 3-2. Owen Miller had a first-inning sacrifice fly and Jack Suwinski added a 2-run homer in the third. Mason Thompson tossed 4 scoreless in his return from the DL.
GORE LORE: Since coming off the Disabled List for a second time with a blister issue on June 10, MacKenzie Gore has made 11 starts, going 43.0 innings, and posting a 3.35 ERA with 55 strikeouts against 14 walks. The league has hit .211 against him... For MWL pitchers this season who've thrown 50+ innings, Gore's 11.47 K/9 ranks 7th. He's gotten batters to swing & miss at 16% of his pitches, tied for the 5th highest rate in the league.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: On Monday, southpaw Osvaldo Hernandez was named the Midwest League's Pitcher of the Week. Last Thursday Hernandez faced the minimum over 6 innings at Lake County. He allowed just a single and a hit batter, and had those baserunners negated with a double play and a pickoff. The 20-year-old from Cuba has the MWL's lowest ERA at 1.81.
ALL ROSY: Jeisson Rosario slashed .269/.381/.322 in the first half, and since the All-Star break is at .294/.383/.411 in 44 games. He had 7 extra-base hits in the first half and already has 14 so far in the second half.
KEY ADDITIONS: Olivier Basabe has hit safely in each of his 5 games as a TinCap since joining the team last Wednesday... Owen Miller also hit safely through his first 5 games, and though he didn't reach base last night, he still contributed with a sac fly... Both were Northwest League All-Stars with Short-Season Tri-City.
SUWINSKI THRIVING: Over 13 games since July 31, Jack Suwinski has the 3rd highest OPS in the Midwest League at 1.096. Suwinski has slashed .362/.436/.660 with 5 doubles, 3 homers, and 11 RBIs in this range. He's been at his best at home this season, where he's hit all 8 of his home runs.
SELLOUT CITY: The TinCaps had their 15th sellout of the season on Saturday with a crowd of 8,456 - the 3rd largest of the year here. Fort Wayne has drawn 337,384 fans for an average of 5,623 across 60 openings. The TinCaps rank 2nd out of 100 Single-A/Short-Season teams in attendance, and better than 27 out of 30 Double-A clubs and 13 of 30 in Triple-A.
COUNTDOWN TO 4 MILLION: The TinCaps are just 6,593 fans away from drawing their 4,000,000th fan at Parkview Field in the ballpark's 10th season. On the night the team hits the 4-million milestone, 1 fan will receive $4,000 in TinCaps hospitality, season tickets, merchandise, and other prizes. 10 other fans will receive $400 gift cards and 20 fans will receive $100 gift cards (so a grand total of $10,000 will be given away).
ON THE SHELF: The TinCaps currently have 4 key players on the Disabled List in catcher Luis Campusano (mild concussion), infielder Justin Lopez (broken left thumb), and outfielders Robbie Podorsky (back spasms) and Tirso Ornelas (right hand bone bruise).
