August 14, 2018 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Beloit, WI - The Beloit Snappers (60-58, 28-21) tied their season high of 16 hits allowed to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (57-62, 26-24) in the Snappers 13-8 Monday night loss at Pohlman Field in front of 647 fans.
With the Snappers leading 6-3 after the second inning, the Timber Rattlers rattled off runs in four consecutive innings to follow. The decisive blow came in the top of the sixth when Payton Henry, with the score tied 8-8, hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Eddie Silva and take the led 9-8. The T-Rats never looked back.
After 13 combined runs between the two teams in the first game, both teams combined for 21 runs on 28 hits. For the Snappers, they tied their season high for hits allowed with 16. That other occasion came June 5th on the road against Cedar Rapids in game two of a double-header.
The Snappers had the lead twice in this one. Austin Beck, who had a game to remember in his young career, started the first with an RBI triple to score Nick Allen and take an early 1-0 lead.
The Snappers would rip off a five-spot in the bottom of the second. Nick Allen started the scoring with a ground rule double that scored Jack Meggs. A Beck double brought home Lage and Allen and then Hunter Hargrove singled home Beck and Armenteros to make it 6-3.
Trailing 8-6 after the top of the fifth, a Mickey McDonald RBI single and a Skyler Weber walk with the bases loaded brought in two runs to tie it 8-8 but the Snappers wouldn't get another run after.
Beck finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. After his first three at bats, he was a home run shy of the cycle. He grounded out to first in his last at bat in the eighth.
Timber Rattlers Chad McClanahan, in his fourth game as a T-Rat, crushed a two-run shot to right in the eighth as insurance runs to make it 11-8. It was his first hit as a Timber Rattler this season.
For the Snappers, left-hander Jared Poché got the start. He went 4.1 innings, tying his career high with nine hits allowed and seven earned runs.
Seth Martinez would pitch 2.2 innings of relief for Poché, earning the loss after giving up the sac fly in the sixth.
For the Snappers, they have dropped the last two of this four-game series and even with a win or loss tomorrow, they will have won seven of their last 12 series overall.
The four-game series with Wisconsin will conclude Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Snappers right-hander Bryce Conley (3-5, 4.48) will make his 14th start of the season, opposed by Timber Rattlers left-hander Aaron Ashby (1-0, 2.30), the Brewers fourth-round pick in this year's draft.
Tuesday is a Working-Class Special promotion. Fans can enjoy a general admission ticket and a brat basket for
just $10.19 from your friends at 101.9 Iron Country Radio.
