TRENDING UP: The TinCaps are on a 3-game winning streak. Fort Wayne is 7-5 since beginning the year 0-6.
ROSARIOHHH: Jeisson Rosario ranks 3rd in the MWL in walks drawn (17). He has walked in 27% of his plate appearances this season. His .492 OBP is tied for 4th highest in the circuit. Also impressive, he's only struck out 10 times, so his BB/K ratio of 1.70 is 7th highest in the league.
RECENT ROSTER MOVES: On Monday the Padres transferred righty reliever Henry Henry and lefty reliever Fred Schlichtholz to Extended Spring Training. Righty relievers Nick Kuzia and Evan Miller have joined the TinCaps from Extended.
FORT FLAVOR: Miller pitched for the Fort Wayne Mastodons (IPFW) for 2 years before he was selected by the Padres in the 22nd round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Miller, who's from LaPorte, Ind. (which is about 100 miles from Parkview Field), has pitched in 16 games for the 'Caps over the last 2 years... The Loons have infielder Zach McKinstry, who's from Fort Wayne. But McKinstry was placed on the Disabled List on Monday after injuring his hand sliding into second base on Sunday. Last week in his hometown, McKinstry went 4-for-10 with a home run, plus four walks.
SPORTSCENTER: Outfielder Tirso Ornelas and infielder Esteury Ruiz were featured by SportsCenter anchor Kevin Connors in his "Minor League Minute" segment on Saturday. Both had 3-hit games that included a home run in Saturday's 8-2 victory over Dayton.
WALK THE WALK: As a team, the TinCaps rank 2nd in the Midwest League in walks drawn (79, 4.3/G).
BACK IN FORT WAYNE: While the TinCaps are in the midst of a 7-game road trip, Parkview Field is remaining busy. The Parkview Sports Medicine High School Baseball started today with the first of 6 doubleheaders featuring area teams.
ALMOST HAD 'EM: The TinCaps have led in 7 of their 11 losses.
YOUNGEST TEAM IN MiLB: The TinCaps feature the 4 youngest players in the league: Justin Lopez (17), Tirso Ornelas (18), Gabriel Arias (18), and Jeisson Rosario. Fort Wayne presently has 10 teenagers on its roster. According to Baseball America, the average age for a TinCaps player to start the year was 20.6. (The average age in the Midwest League was 22 years old.) This theme continues up the ladder for the Padres, who also have the youngest team in the California League (High-A Lake Elsinore) and the Texas League (Double-A San Antonio).
WE'RE No. 1: According to MLB.com, the Padres have the No. 1 ranked farm system in baseball. The TinCaps boast 7 "Top 30" San Diego prospects (see list on right), including MacKenzie Gore (MLB.com's No. 1 LHP).
