Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Geneva, IL - Luis Silverio racked up five runs batted in and the Kane County Cougars scored five runs in two different innings to knock off the Quad Cities River Bandits 11-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Northwestern Medicine Field.
For the 10th time in the first 16 games there was a run scored in the first inning. On Tuesday, it was the Cougars who struck first. Luis Basabe led off with a single and was replaced by Ernie De La Trinidad on base after the latter's groundout. De La Trinidad went to second on a fielder's choice and third on a wild pitch. Silverio gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with a single through the left side. Center fielder Jake Meyers prevented further scoring by throwing out Silverio at the plate while he was trying to score on another single by Renae Martinez.
The Cougars grabbed a 6-0 lead with a big third inning. They tallied five runs on six hits in the frame and managed to chase starter J.B. Bukauskas in the process. Silverio, Joey Rose, and Manny Jefferson came up with run-scoring hits in the frame.
The Bandits briefly cut the lead in half in the top of the eighth against reliever Erbert Gonzalez. They loaded the bases on three walks before Bryan De La Cruz punched a base hit through the right side to drive in a pair. One more scored on Adrian Tovalin's run-scoring bouncer in front of the plate as the Bandits pulled within 6-3.
However, the Cougars quickly rebounded in a big way with their second five-run inning in the bottom half of the frame. An infield single and two walks loaded the bases for Silverio, who tripled into the left field corner to clear the bases. Before the inning was over, Kane County scored two more runs to increase their advantage to 11-3.Â
The River Bandits totaled seven hits in the contest. De La Cruz and Jake Meyers were responsible for two each. Jake Adams has reached base safely in all 13 games he has played in this season.
Bukauskas, making his first appearance since April 10, lasted 2.0 innings and surrendered three runs on seven hits. Mushinski tossed 4.0 frames and also allowed three runs on four hits while fanning five. Cole Watts gave up five runs in 1.1 innings on the mound. Robert Corniel pitched 0.2 scoreless innings.
The teams meet again on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. The River Bandits (6-10) will call on LHP Patrick Sandoval (1-1, 9.82) while Kane County (9-7) will hand the ball to fellow LHP Mack Lemieux (1-2, 6.23).
All River Bandits games are broadcast on 1170 K-BOB and TuneIn Radio. Home games are also available with video on MiLB.TV.
