Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - Nick Allen roped a two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Mickey McDonald followed with a RBI single to give the Beloit Snappers (7-6) took game two with a 3-2 victory over the Peoria Chiefs (8-8) at Pohlman Field before 408 fans Tuesday night.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, back-to-back walks to Jack Meggs and Jesus Lopez set the stage for Allen with no outs in the frame. The 19-year-old then sent a two-run triple, scoring both Meggs and Lopez to tie the game at 2 with McDonald waiting on deck.
McDonald then stepped in and blooped an RBI single over the third baseman's head, as Allen scored to give the Snappers a 3-2 lead.
Snappers starter Jared Poche was dealing early and often, as the southpaw yielded just one hit over five innings pitched walking one, and fanning five Chiefs batters.
He gave way to Jesus Zambrano in the sixth inning, as the right-hander tossed 2.2 innings while surrendering the two Peoria runs on six hits while walking and striking out a batter.
Zambrano yielded his runs in the sixth and seventh innings, as Edwin Figuera scored on a Taylor Bryant RBI single that gave the Chiefs the lead in the sixth. Austin Beck kept the Chiefs lead at 1-0 in the sixth inning, as threw out Jonathan Mochado at the plate to keep the deficit to just 1-0 at the time.
The Chiefs then added their second run in the top of the seventh, as Juan Yepez singled home Elehuris Montero, who tripled to lead off the inning for Peoria.
With the three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, Zambrano was let off the hook and picked up his second victory of the year.
Josh Reagan came on to pitch with two outs in the seventh inning, and got help from his defense to work out of trouble.
With Yepez on third, and Bryce Denton on first, Denton stole second as Snappers catcher Skyler Weber fired down to second base. As the throw went to second, Yepez broke for home to try to score, but was thrown out by Nick Allen at home.
The series continues Wednesday with game three of the four-game set, as right-hander Michael Danielak (0-2, 9.00) will make the start for the Snappers. The Chiefs will counter with right-hander Johan Oviedo (1-1, 7.36). It is the first Kids Eat Free and Craft Beer Wednesday of the season, Kids 12 and under will receive a hot dog and soda voucher to be redeemed at the main concession stand and All 12-oz. craft beer drafts are just $2.
