Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers made A second trade prior to the beginning of round 3 of the WHL Prospects Draft.

The Tigers have traded captain Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) to the Everett Silvertips in exchange for a 3rd round pick in the 2024 Prospects Draft.

MacKenzie is heading into his final season of Junior Hockey and has played in 197 games with the Orange and Black, along with being named the franchise's 40th captain during the 2023-2024 season.

The Red Deer product had 47 points (16 goals, 31 assists) playing in all 68 games this past season.

Tigers Head Coach & General Manager Willie Desjardins says MacKenzie will be missed for his body of work on and off the ice the last four seasons.

"Tyler was a great Tiger through the last four years," he says. "He's been with us through some tough times and with his work ethic and leadership brought us to great times the last two seasons. It's always a tough decision when it comes overagers as we can only keep three but we know Tyler is going to do incredible things in Everett and we're going to miss him, we wish him all the best with the Silvertips."

Medicine Hat will pick in the first round of today's Prospect Draft, with the 16th overall pick. Stay informed on the Tigers Social Media Channels and on the website for a full Draft Recap this afternoon.
