Swift Current Broncos News Release

Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos are set to add a few more prospects to their pipeline today as the WHL Prospects Draft is set to take place.

Yesterday, the Broncos added a pair of 2009-born players with Easton Johnson and Nolan Fitzhenry in the U.S. Priority Draft. They'll look to add a few more on Thursday.

This season, the Broncos hold their first-round pick, 17th overall, but are without a draft pick after that until round five.

The Broncos don't hold a sixth-round pick heading into draft day, but do hold all of their picks from rounds seven through 15. Last season, 17 of the Broncos 24 players on the playoff roster were drafted by the club. Eight were taken in the first two rounds, while five were taken in the fifth-round or later.

In the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, the Broncos selected nine players in the 2008-born class, including forward Sawyer Dingman who was taken 30th Overall, the Broncos first selection in the draft. Along with Dingman, Defencemen Daxon Yerex (52nd Overall) and Nathan Gray (74th Overall), and forward Mason Fauser (109th Overall) are all signed by the club.

The Broncos last picked 17th overall in 2016 when they took Defenceman Jacson Alexander who played 60 WHL games, including 32 with the Broncos. The only other time the Broncos picked 17th was in 2001, taking Defenceman David Schulz who played 304 WHL games, 185 for the Broncos.
