Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips have officially selected defenseman Landon DuPont with the first-overall pick in the 2024 WHL Draft Thursday morning.

"I'm super excited and honored to be picked," said DuPont. "I can't wait to get things going... It's an amazing organization that's ran really well."

DuPont, an '09-born Calgary, AB native, has garnered international headlines for his stellar play at the U18 level as a 14-year-old. He posted 19 goals and 43 assists over 30 games at Edge School U18 Prep in 2023-24, plus five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in five playoff games. He also wowed at the Circle K Classic, where he notched five goals and four assists over five games.

"We're really excited to add Landon to our group," commented Silvertips assistant general manager Mike Fraser. "He's a very dynamic player that does pretty much everything. He's got great skating and edges, scoring ability, great skill, smarts... I think he's a bit of an underrated defender as well. He's the whole package."

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound DuPont was officially granted exceptional status on Apr. 8, joining Regina Pats alum Connor Bedard as the only other WHLer to be granted the unique distinction. As such, DuPont is eligible to play the full 2024-25 season as a 15-year-old.

He spent the 2022-23 season at the U15 level with Edge School, picking up 15 goals and 32 assists in 27 games played with six points in four playoff appearances.

"He's a very mature young man," Fraser added. "He's very easy to talk to. Obviously he's had a lot of limelight on him the last year, maybe more, and he just handles himself so well on and off the ice."

"I've been to a few [Silvertips] games live," DuPont noted. "It was crazy. The fans go crazy with their cowbells, it was super fun to watch."

DuPont becomes the highest pick in Silvertips franchise history, who previously had not picked higher than third in their expansion season of 2003. That pick was used on future NHL first-rounder Zach Hamill, who accumulated 262 points in 250 WHL games in Everett.

DuPont's father, Micki, is a WHL alumnus having played for the Kamloops Blazers from 1996-2000. He earned WHL and CHL Defenseman of the Year in 2000, then enjoyed a 19-year pro career including 23 games in the NHL.
