Tigers Come Back In 3-2 Shootout Win Over Rebels

Red Deer, AB - It was a night of firsts for the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday night in Red Deer, outlasting the Rebels 3-2 in a shootout.
It would be the Rebels opening the scoring on a Red Deer power play as Talon Brigley would re-direct a point shot past Tigers starter Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) at 6:03. But for the second straight game giving up the first goal, the Tigers would find the equalizer thanks to Red Deer's own Tyler MacKenzie on a Tigers man advantage to tie things up at 1-1 at 12:42. Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) & Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) would register assists on MacKenzie's 9th of the season. The Rebels and Tigers would go into the 1st intermission all square at 1-1.
Off to the second and on another Tigers power play it would be the Rebels creating a turnover and Kai Uchacz would score on the short handed breakaway to give the Rebels their second lead of the night at 2-1 just 2:26 into the second. The first 40 minutes would eventually read 2-1 Red Deer with the Tigers outshooting their Central Division opponents 25-19 heading to the third.
When trailing by one goal after two periods this season, the Tigers were 0-3-4-1 coming into tonight, but that would eventually change as Brenden Lee would find a way to blast a one-time feed from Andrew Basha once again just getting through Rebels goaltender Kyle Kelsey's five hole and tying the game at 2-2 with less than five minutes to go at 15:39. But immediately following the Lee tally, Dwayne Jean Jr would be rewarded with a penalty shot at 16:02 but Langkow was able to stonewall any chance of the Rebels coming back and winning in regulation.
Off to overtime for the 7th time this year and despite the chances the Tigers would have, nothing would be settled and it was down to a shootout where Lee, Basha and eventually Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) would score the game winning goal to give the Tigers their 8th win of the season while Beckett Langkow turned aside 30 of 32 Rebels shots, including one save in the shootout.
Win the win, the Tigers move their record to 8-10-4-1 while the Rebels stay atop the Central with a record of 16-4-0-3.
Up next on the Tigers 3 games in 3 days stretch is a return home to the friendly confines of Co-op Place tomorrow night as it's another pivotal Central Division match-up as the Calgary Hitmen make their way to Medicine Hat for the 1st time this season.
