Swift Current, SK - The Edmonton Oil Kings dropped a narrow 5-3 decision in Swift Current to the Broncos on Saturday night.

In the first period, the Broncos would find the only goal of the frame and it came in the final minute after Caleb Wyrostok busted into the Edmonton zone and lasered a shot over the right arm of Ronin Geraghty from the left-wing circle.

In the second period, the Oil Kings were able to quickly level the score on a goal from Rhett Melnyk. Carson Golder drove his way into the Broncos zone, skated behind their net and then made a blind backhand feed to a wide-open Melnyk in front who stuffed home his sixth goal of the season.

The Broncos were able to restore their lead with a shorthanded goal from Sam McGinley at 6:24 of the period after he took a pass in the right-circle and snapped a shot just inside the far post.

Edmonton had another quick response though, as just 1:42 later, Luke Robson collected his first career WHL goal after picking the top corner over the right arm of Gage Alexander from the slot on a setup from Hayden Wheddon and Marshall Finnie.

No more offence would be found in the second half of the middle stanza as they teams entered the second intermission tied at two.

In the third period, the Broncos pulled ahead for a third time with a goal from Luke Mistelbacher nine minutes into the third period, but again, Edmonton had a response. On an Edmonton power play at the 12:11 mark, Finnie tied the game at three after muscling in a rebound at the side of the Swift Current net for his fifth goal of the season.

With just under seven minutes left in regulation, the Broncos were able to pull ahead for good after Josh Filmon was setup for a backdoor tap-in by Mistelbacher.

Matthew Ward would tack on a late insurance marker for the Broncos with just under two minutes left in the game.
