Thunder Win on 10th Inning Error

(Trenton, NJ)- A throwing error by Portland SS Iggy Suarez allowed Trenton's Carlos Mendoza to score the winning run in the 10th Inning as the Thunder beat Portland, 4-3, on Tuesday night. The win was the fifth in a row for the Thunder (71-49).

The 10th Inning rally started with a bloop double to center by Mendoza with one out. 3B Mike Kinkade hit a slow ground ball that Suarez threw into the Thunder dugout, allowing Mendoza to score from 3rd Base. Trenton's Charlie Manning (1-0) got the win with a scoreless top of the tenth. Portland's Kyle Jackson (4-8) took the loss allowing one unearned run in one inning of relief.

The Thunder finished the game with six straight innings of shutout relief from Jason Jones, Kevin Whelan, Justin Pope and Manning. The offense was led by Kinkade and 2B Gabe Lopez with three hit each. Kinkade scored the first run of the night on an RBI double by DH Cody Ehlers in the 2nd Inning. Lopez helped Trenton get the game tied at 3-3 with an RBI double in the 4th Inning. Portland (62-56) had tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run double by CF Bubba Bell in the 3rd Inning and took the lead on a Jeff Natale sacrifice fly in thye 4th Inning.

Trenton and Portland continue the three-game series on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. Chase Wright (4-1, 3.62) starts for the Thunder against Portland's Tommy Hottovy (2-8, 5.65).
