New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Brock Peterson had three hits - including a solo home run and a two-run single - and scored three runs as the Rock Cats rallied to catch up to New Hampshire and then ran away with a 12-5 victory.

The Rock Cats entered the bottom of the fifth down by three and tied the game. In the next inning, Luke Hughes doubled, advanced to third on a balk, and scored on a passed ball to put the Rock Cats ahead for the first time of the night.

The night was a tale of two games, as the New Hampshire looked to be on its way to a victory early on. In the first inning, the Fisher Cats' Manueal Mayorson (3-5) started things off with a leadoff single and Juan Peralta followed with another single. Ryan Patterson then hit a scorcher to third baseman Luke Hughes, who made an impressive stop and throw to first for the out, but the groundout allowed Mayorson to score from third. A wild pitch by Ryan Mullins allowed Peralta to move to third before David Smith's single knocked him in for a 2-0 lead.

Peterson cut the Fisher Cats' lead in half with a solo home run to center field in the second inning.

Another wild pitch by Mullins led to a run in the third for New Hampshire. Smith (3-3, 2R, 2 2B) reached on a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch before Aaron Matthews delivered a sacrifice fly to right field for a 3-1 advantage. Aaron Matthews added a two-run blast for New Hampshire in the fifth inning.

The Rock Cats retaliated in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out rally. Garrett Guzman and Peterson reached on back-to-back singles. David Winfree then knocked in Guzman with the third consecutive single for the ‘Cats. Peterson came around to score on a double by Rashad Eldridge. An error by shortstop Ryan Klosterman allowed Winfree to score and tie the game, 5-5.

Rock Cats reliever Armando Gabino escaped a bases loaded jam in the sixth. After striking out the first two batters of the inning, Gabino allowed two walks and a single to load the bases, but he forced a fly out to right field to end the inning. That allowed the Rock Cats to strike in the bottom of the inning.

Guzman, who also finished the night with three hits, added an RBI single in the sixth and an RBI double in the seventh. Felix Molina added a two-run home run for the Rock Cats in the eighth inning.

Mullins lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks. He struck out five. Gabino (1-0) allowed one hit and struck out two in his Double-A debut. He combined with Josh Hill, Tristan Crawford, and Jesse Floyd for 4 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.
