New Britain, CT- Aaron Mathews went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs, and David Smith reached base five times with two doubles, two walks, two runs, and an RBI, but the New Britain Rock Cats scored 10 unanswered runs to down the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 12-5, Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium.

Brock Peterson went 3-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three runs and the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game, a two-run single in the seventh inning that blew open a close game for New Britain (55-61), which gave reliever Armando Gabino a win in his Eastern League debut.

Gabino (1-0) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, striking out two and walking two. He and three other Rock Cat relievers -Josh Hill, Tristan Crawford, and Jesse Floyd-combined for 4.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen.

New Hampshire (60-61) took a 2-0 lead off left-hander Ryan Mullins in the top of the first inning. Manny Mayorson (3-for-5, R) and Juan Peralta (2-for-4, R, BB) led off with back-to-back singles. Patterson scored Mayorson with a ground out, and Peralta scored on Smith's single to right.

Peterson hit his 12th home run, a solo blast to left-centerfield, on Ricky Romero's first pitch of the second inning, trimming the Fisher Cats' lead to 2-1.

Smith doubled and scored on Mathews' sacrifice fly in the third inning to give New Hampshire a 3-1 lead, before Peterson walked and later scored on a Matt Allegra single, drawing the Rock Cats to within 3-2 in the fourth.

The Fisher Cats took a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning when Mathews tagged Mullins' final pitch of the night for a two-run homer, his seventh, over the left field wall. Smith, who led off with his second double of the game, scored on the homer.

Romero (4.2 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 8 H, BB, 5 K) allowed four straight two-out singles in the fifth inning before a Ryan Klosterman fielding error allowed a fifth straight Rock Cat to reach base. New Britain scored three times that inning to tie the game, 5-5.

The Fisher Cats' bullpen yielded seven runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings, with Jean Machi (2-3) allowing two runs on two hits, two walks, two wild pitches and a balk to suffer the loss.

Garrett Guzman (3-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB) raised his season AVG. to .388 (34-for-88) against the Fisher Cats with 20 RBI after a run-scoring single in the Rock Cats' six-run sixth and an RBI double in New Britain's three-run seventh.

Felix Molina became the last Rock Cat to reach base when he belted a two-run home run, his seventh, off Seth Overbey with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap the scoring.

New Hampshire remains 3 ½ games behind second-place Portland in the Eastern League Northern Division Standings after the Trenton Thunder beat the Sea Dogs, 4-3, in 10 innings Tuesday night.

The Fisher Cats send right-hander Kyle Yates (6-7, 4.69) to the mound for the middle game of the three-game series Wednesday night against New Britain right-hander Yohan Pino (1-2, 5.16) at 7:05pm.
