READING, Pa. -- With Mike Spidale and Mike Costanzo contributing tie-breaking RBI singles in the sixth inning, and relief pitching prevailing in the late going, the Phillies -- despite committing four errors -- prevailed 8-6 over the Erie SeaWolves Tuesday night to escape a five-game losing streak.

Spidale -- his hit put the Phillies ahead to stay -- and Costanzo each had three hits and a combined five RBIs to lead a 13-hit attack that included 11 singles.

Just when it appeared Josh Outman might get his first Double-A victory -- he threw shutout ball for four innings -- he came unglued. Even including a spectacular diving catch in foul territory by the third baseman Costanzo and a zany 9-4-2-3-5 double play, the SeaWolves put up a four-run fifth. Then, with relief pitcher Julio De La Cruz contributing three errors, the SeaWolves tied it in the sixth.

Chris Key (5-1) came in with two runners on to put out the fire and also pitched a scoreless seventh. Julio Mateo pitched two-hit ball the last two innings and earned his first save with the Phillies (60-61).

Matt Righter (3-4), the second of four SeaWolves pitchers, got the loss. Erie (67-51) fell to 3-7 against the Phillies.
