Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Class AA Affiliate of the N.Y. Yankees, announced today that RHP Tyler Clippard has been activated from the Disabled List. He will start tonight against the Portland Sea Dogs at Waterfront Park. To make room for Clippard, RHP Gerardo Casadiego has been released by the Yankees.
Clippard suffered a neck injury on July 26th in his lone start for the Thunder at Reading. He was placed on the Disabled List retro-active to July 30th. In the game against Reading, Clippard pitched three innings and gave up four hits and three runs before leaving prior to the bottom of the fourth inning.
Clippard started 2007 with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, going 3-2, 2.72 ERA in nine starts before a promotion to the Major Leagues. He won his debut against the N.Y. Mets on national television at Shea Stadium. Clippard was 3-1, 6.33 ERA before being sent back Scranton. Clippard was transferred to Trenton on July 24th. Last year, he was 12-10 for the Thunder including the first "no-hitter" in Trenton history on August 19th in Harrisburg, PA. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the 9th round of the 2003 draft.
In two combined stints with the Thunder this season, Casadiego compiled a 3-3 record with a 3.86 ERA in 35 games and nine saves. He started the season with the Thunder but was transferred to Tampa on June 16th. Casadiego was 0-0 for Tampa with a 1.50 ERA in four appearances. Last year, Casadiego split the season between Trenton and Tampa. He went 2-3 with a 2.12 ERA for the Thunder in 22 games including one save. For Tampa, he had a 1-1 record with a 3.51 ERA in 28 games including 13 saves. Casadiego was signed by the Yankees as a free agent on February 1st, 2006. He had previously pitched in the Eastern League with Harrisburg from 2002-04.
Trenton begins a three-game series tonight at Waterfront Park against the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. RHP Tyler Clippard (0-0, 9.00) starts for Trenton against Portland RHP Chris Smith (4-7, 3.74).
