Trenton Thunder News Release

Is This A Playoff Preview?

Trenton begins a three-game series with Portland, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, tonight, pitting the two top teams in the Northern Division of the Eastern League. The starting pitching should determine the outcome of the series. Trenton has top pitching prospects Tyler Clippard, Chase Wright and Alan Horne lined up to pitch in the series. Both Clippard and Wright have pitched for the Yankees this season and Horne is among the Eastern League Leaders in wins, ERA and strikeouts. Portland counters with veteran Chris Smith, Tommy Hottovy and Justin Masterson. Masterson has been phenomenal for Portland since his call-up from High-A Lancaster. This should be a great preview of a possible Northern Division Playoff match-up.

Trenton recently lost four of six road games at Binghamton, and the season series has been tight with Trenton taking nine of the 16 match-ups so far. Binghamton's Brett Harper has been a thorn in Trenton's side, batting .328 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 15 games against the Thunder this season. There will be a Chien-Ming Wang Player Statue giveaway to the first 2,000 fans ages six and over on Sunday August 26th, which will be a great way to show our appreciation to the best fans in baseball and wrap up the home portion of the regular season.
