Thunder Offense Stalls in Loss to Harrisburg

April 25, 2018 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release

Despite a strong start from Justus Sheffield, an early three-run deficit proved too much for the Thunder on Wednesday, as the team fell to the Harrisburg Senators, 4-2, at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Sheffield delivered his third straight quality start for the Thunder (11-8), allowing three runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out eight batters.

Harrisburg's Khayyan Norfork reached on a throwing error in the first inning by shortstop Vince Conde, and scored on a single by Taylor Gushue. The Senators (7-11) added two more runs in the fourth, as three straight hits and a fielding error by right fielder Trey Amburgey padded the Harrisburg lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Gosuke Katoh led off with a walk, and Chris Gittens followed with a two-run homer to right field to bring the Thunder within one run. But Austin Davidson greeted Trenton reliever Jose Mesa Jr. with a home run to lead off the seventh, and the Thunder would fail to score the rest of the day. The team left two men stranded in the eighth and loaded the bases in the ninth before three straight strikeouts by left-hander Bryan Harper ended the game and snapped the Thunder's four-game winning streak.

Your Thunder begin a three-game series on the road Friday night at 6:35pm against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. RHP Dillon Tate (1-0, 1.80) will start for the Thunder, while RHP Sean Reid-Foley (3-0, 1.47) will go for New Hampshire. Tickets for all Thunder home games are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
