Thunder Mash to a 20-11 Win over Akron

Akron, OH - For the first time since 2003, the Thunder scored 20 runs in a game, and belted their way past Akron on Monday night 20-11. With the win, the Thunder improve to 11-13 on the season.

The scoring came early and often, as the Thunder wasted no time taking advantage of erratic Akron LHP Eric Berger. In the first inning, Trenton scored two runs on two hits and drew four walks. They would score four more in the third to take a 6-0 lead.

Trenton RHP Lance Pendleton breezed through the first two innings, but ran into a wall in the third, and surrendered five runs off Akron batters, highlighted by a Beau Mills three-run home run to cut the Thunder lead to just one run. And after Trenton scored four more runs between the fourth and fifth innings, the Aeros eventually tied the game at ten with five more runs in the bottom half of the fifth.

The Trenton hitters would then face Cleveland Indian closer Kerry Wood, who pitching for the Aeros on a rehab assignment, in the sixth inning. In the end, Trenton would tag Wood for six runs in just 0.2 innings pitched. Overall, they would score seven runs in the inning.

Brandon Laird went 4-f0r-5 on the night with three doubles and a home run. Every batter for Trenton had at least one hit.

The Thunder continue their series with Akron on Tuesday at 7:05PM. RHP DJ Mitchell starts for the Thunder, while Akron will go with RHP Zach Putnam.
